As I have gone along in this journey, I knew that there would be facts that I would uncover that would come as a surprise to me.
Sandro, my angel from Abruzzo, took another trip to Goriano Sicoli, with the mission of finding out more about my great grandfather.
Dear Kristen,Yesterday, I went to Goriano to find your family roots.
I met Goriano’s Mayor. His name is Mr. Rodolfo Marganelli. He is a very nice person and if you come here, he will be pleased to meet you . . . we went to the city hall and found the old books with old registrations and certificates. So now we know all the names of your ancestors, and the house where they use to live in, and were born in.
Sandro wrote to me that the man wearing the blue shirt is the mayor of Goriano Sicoli, Mr. Rodolfo Marganelli. The impressively mustached man in the foreground is “the record office’s responsable. He keeps all the old documents.” I imagine his position to be the equivalent of a city clerk. You will notice in the close-up shot of the birth records that the gentlemen translated for me what the document says.
Sandro tells me that there will be another festa in September. Unfortunately, it is happening a few days before we get there. However, I have a feeling that our arrival will be a festa of its own. I can’t wait to meet everyone!

This must seem surreal to you. How wonderful that technology can bring complete strangers so close and can reveal the wonders of your own personal universe! Fascinating journey and you aren’t even “there” yet!

Ciao, it is very nice to share with you the excitement of finding the history connected to a family. I translated the birth certificate for you, as there in Goriano, they don’t speak (and write) english. My English is not the best, but I’m sure you all understand it. I’m sure you’ll forget all my mistaked as you know by now that I am a “vero italiano”. I wish you all the best!
