If you are an English speaker looking to learn Italian, may I take a moment to make a recommendation?
For the past month, I have been using Pimsleur to great results. It starts out really slow and prompts you for what to say. There is a lot of repetition to keep you feeling confident that you are grasping the lesson. Let me know if you’re interested in borrowing my CD. I’m currently on lesson 8. The only problem I’m having is that I listen in the car so I don’t get much of the reading part of it down. But I’m not so worried about that for now.

Hello!
I’m your far far away relative
I love to learn foreign languages, and i tried the pimsleur method, with japanese and german, I think it’s amazing, for example the power of two speakers (father an mom) feature

I forgot that reading part was on the CD. I just skipped past those lessons. I got a simple English-Italian paperback dictionary which tells how to pronounce the letters. That’s all you need ;-O

The best way to learn a language is to be in a place where you are forced to speak the forein language. When you come to Italy, all you need to know is just food words as:”pasta, pizza, pane, parmigiano, ecc” or drinks words as: “vino, birra, caffè espresso, cappuccino, ecc.” and of course some bad words as: ……(cannot write them), and you are ok for every day surviving!
